University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD) of The University of Lahore (UOL) is organizing a 3-day international conference on “Health Professions Education: the change imperative” to be held from August 15th to 17th in collaboration with Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences & Research (IADSR) at UOL Defence Road.
Certificate in Health Education (CHPE) programme has been specially designed to introduce the basic concepts of teaching and learning to health professions education teachers in Pakistan. CHPE programme provides an opportunity to HPE teachers to learn the basics of health professions education, that are required to make them effective teachers through introducing the basic concepts about teaching and learning, curriculum design and assessment. The programme is targeted to doctors, nurses and allied health professionals involved in teaching and learning in medical, dental, nursing and allied health institutes. The concept of the programme revolves around Hardens’ twelve roles of a medical teacher. The programme provides an opportunity to educators to develop a few skills required by a HPE teacher. The idea of the programme is not new. The need for such programme has always been felt in different countries and various versions of such programmes are available in different countries. Association for Medical Educators in Europe (AMEE) regularly runs a three four days workshop with the name of Essentials Skills in Medical Education (ESME). CHPE aims at introducing the basics and applied concepts of medical education to the Pakistani HPE teachers and improving their skills to perform the basic functions of a medical in a HPE institute.
